How to choose the right racket

When choosing a tennis racket for a child, the most important thing to consider is the length of the frame, which should be proportionate to the child's age and height. A racket that's too long or heavy can make it difficult to learn the correct swing movements.

Here's a practical guide:

• - 17”/19” → Children aged 2 to 4 years up to 90 cm tall;

• - 21” → Children aged 4 to 6 with a height between 90 and 105 cm;

• - 23” → Children aged 6 to 8 years with a height ranging from 105 to 120 cm;

• - 25” → Children aged 8 to 10 and between 120 and 140 cm tall;

• - 26” → Boys aged between 10 and 12, 140 to 150 cm tall;

• - 27” → Ages 12 and up or over 150cm tall.

Other aspects to take into consideration are:

• - Weight: a light racket is better to facilitate movement;

• - Grip: it must not be too large, the junior models are already designed for children's hands;

• - Material: aluminum (cheaper and lighter, ideal for beginners) or graphite (higher performance, for advanced players).

A quick trick: have your child hold the racket and rest it at their side with the tip facing the floor. The racket is the right size if the head reaches about ankle height, without touching the ground too much.
